The building
Stort View Court is a period townhouse in the centre of Bishop's Stortford, converted into self-contained rooms for working professionals. Sash windows, high ceilings and dormers in the roof — the things that make an old building pleasant to live in — have been kept. Everything behind them is new.
The house takes its name from the River Stort, which runs a few minutes' walk away through the middle of town and out along the towpath towards Sawbridgeworth.

What's included
No utility accounts in your name, no splitting a bill six ways at the end of the month, no standing charges you didn't know about.
All in the rent, with a fair-use allowance rather than a meter to watch.
House-wide Wi-Fi, connected on the day you move in.
Handled centrally — you won't get a bill for either.
Double bed, mattress, wardrobe, chest of drawers, desk and chair in every room.
Fitted kitchen with oven, hob, fridge-freezer, washer and dryer. Communal sitting room.
Communal areas cleaned on a schedule. Report a fault and it gets picked up, not ignored.
Check before publishing Confirm the fair-use position on utilities, who the TV licence covers, and how often communal cleaning runs — the three things tenants ask about, and the three most likely to be wrong on a template.
Location
The house sits in the middle of town, which is the point: the high street, Jackson Square, the Saturday market and the riverside are all a short walk, and so is the station. Greater Anglia runs four trains an hour into London Liverpool Street and the Stansted Express calls twice an hour. For anyone driving, the M11 meets the town at junction 8.
Verify the rail times Service frequencies follow Greater Anglia's published pattern; the journey times are typical rather than timetabled. Worth checking against the current timetable before this goes live, and the walking times need measuring from the door.
Taking a room
Send an enquiry with the room you're interested in and when you'd want to move. Viewings run in the evenings and at weekends.
A short application: proof of ID, proof of income or a job offer, and a previous landlord if you've rented before.
Referencing usually clears in two to three working days. The deposit is protected in a government-approved scheme.
Sign, collect keys, and walk into a furnished room with the broadband already working.
Gas, electricity, water, full-fibre broadband, council tax and the TV licence, subject to a fair-use allowance on energy. There's no separate service charge and no set-up fee.
Six months to start, then rolling month to month. If you need something shorter, ask — it's occasionally possible depending on the room.
[ Confirm the figure — typically five weeks' rent, capped by the Tenant Fees Act 2019. ] It's registered with a government-approved deposit protection scheme within 30 days and returned in full where there's no breach of the agreement.
Guests are welcome. Rooms are let to one person, so an overnight guest is fine but a second permanent occupant isn't — the house is licensed for a set number of people.
[ Confirm — permit zone, on-site spaces, or nearest car park. ] The station and the high street are both walkable, so a lot of tenants here don't keep a car.
[ Confirm the house position on pets. ]
Yes. Stort View Court is a licensed house in multiple occupation, which sets minimum standards for room sizes, amenities and fire safety. Every bedroom exceeds the 6.51 m² statutory minimum for a single adult.
